I was looking for a projector for our basement and for outdoor summer movies, but didn’t want the hassle of having to set up a projector AND DVD player/laptop AND receiver AND speakers… If, like me, ease of set up is your top priority, then you could do far worse than purchase the DV11. Plug it in, pop in a DVD and with minimal adjustments you have an incredibly bright and sharp picture in no time at all.

The picture projects upwards at quite a steep angle, so the projector needs to be low on the ground. (You can adjust this angle somewhat in the menu options if necessary.) The front and back of the projector can be adjusted separately for balance and the level and then the zoom option and manual lens control can ensure you fill your screen. There is also a keystone feature to perfect your image, creating the proper rectangular shape.

The projector obviously works best in darkness, but performs adequately in ambient light. The speakers are fine for indoors but I have added computer speakers to get a better stereo effect and for a little extra volume when outside.

The picture is bright, sharp and is easy to adjust to your preferences in the menu options (from ‘warm’ to ‘cool’ images, contrast, brightness and individually setting the red, green and blue tones if you’d like). The THX Optimiser in the DVD menu of any ‘Star Wars’/ ‘Indiana Jones’ or many Pixar films are useful for this. I personally haven’t noticed any ‘rainbow’ effect that some find on a DLP projector.

One downside is that the remote isn’t backlit, and often I have hit the wrong button by mistake. Overall, this is one of the best gifts I have received. It’s going to keep me (and the family. But mostly me) happy for quite some time.
